Qualifications and Requirements for Appointment

The following requirements must be met in order for an applicant to be commissioned for a 4-years term as an Arizona notary public, one must:
  • Be an Arizona resident for income tax purposes;

  • Not have had an Arizona notary commission revoked within the previous four years of your application;
  • Be at least 18 years old;

  • Not have been convicted of a felony. (Note: if you have been convicted of a felony but your civil rights have been restored, you can apply and a decision will be made regarding your eligibility for a notary commission.);

  • Read the Arizona state Notary Handbook (required);

  • Submit an application to be appointed a notary public commission and pay a $25.00 state appointment fee;

  • Obtain a surety bond in the amount of $5,000, available from the American Association of Notaries for $50.00; and

  • Mail the original notarized bond with a check of $18.00 to the Clerk of Superior Court Clerk of Superior Court of the county where you reside.
